Volunteering

For the Melbourne Jewish Book Week Festival 2024, we will need over 60 volunteers. Below is a description of each of the volunteer roles. Once you have found one that suits you, please use the link to sign-up.

All volunteers must have a valid Working with Children Check card.

All volunteers will be briefed prior to the Festival and given an opportunity to meet other volunteers in a volunteer induction session (Zoom). (Time and date TBD)

As a volunteer, you can stand/sit (subject to availability) and watch when not working at the event that you have volunteered for.

You will also be able to attend any session on Sunday, if there is availability and you are not on duty. You will just need to show your volunteer nametag.

Volunteer Roles:

  • Set-up/ pack-up—You will be given instructions on the day as to what needs to be done. Please be aware that this role may require lifting or carrying of objects.
  • Room Monitor—You will be checking tickets and guiding people to the appropriate session. Ushers will be responsible for notifying the moderators when there are 15 minutes and then 5 minutes left in the session. When the session is finished, please ensure there is water and clean cups and usher people out as quickly as possible as there is only a 10-minute turnaround time.
  • Registration Table—You will greet festival attendees, check tickets and direct to rooms.
  • Green Room Host—You will make sure food and drinks are available for the guests, ensure room is clean and chat with the guests.
  • Distribute lunch boxes—Some attendees on Sunday will have pre-purchased lunch boxes. You will tick off names and hand out the boxes.
  • Manage the Hub—The Hub is where attendees will be “hanging out”. It is also where authors will be selling and signing books. Assist with the signings and keep room tidy.
